Many of the best-funded scholarships close in October, and several have already gone: Chevening on 6 October and the Commonwealth Master's Scholarships on 20 October. If you missed those, do not stop here. Two have confirmed deadlines still ahead, and three of the biggest calls for next year are about to open. Check every date on the programme's official page before you start, because calls can change.

Still open with a confirmed deadline

1. ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship (Switzerland): 1 to 30 November 2026

For students starting a master's degree at ETH Zurich in autumn 2027. It covers living and study costs of CHF 12,000 per semester, rising to CHF 13,500 per semester from autumn 2027, and includes a tuition fee waiver for the regular length of the degree. It is highly competitive: you need a very strong bachelor's result, roughly the top 10% of your programme, and a short master's thesis pre-proposal. About 60 awards are expected for 2027/28, with decisions by the end of March. The page sets no nationality limit. You apply for admission to ETH separately.

2. Gates Cambridge Scholarship (UK): 8 December 2026 or 6 January 2027

Full-cost postgraduate scholarships at the University of Cambridge for outstanding applicants from outside the UK, for a PhD, an MLitt or a one-year full-time master's. Citizens of any country outside the UK can apply, which includes Ghana. There is no separate Gates application. You apply for admission and funding together through the University of Cambridge graduate application portal, and your deadline is either 8 December or 6 January depending on your course, so check the Course Directory. Undergraduate degrees, MASt courses, MBA and other professional degrees, and part-time courses other than the PhD are not eligible.

Opening soon: start preparing now

These three calls have not been published for next year, so there are no confirmed deadlines to give you yet. What we can say is when each one usually runs, so you can have your documents ready before it opens.

Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary)

Hungary's scholarship for international students covers tuition, with accommodation partly supported. The 2026/27 round ran from 14 November 2025 to 15 January 2026, so the 2027/28 call is likely to be published around mid November 2026. Ghana is among the eligible countries. Ghanaian applicants also submit through the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, which has set its own date a few days after the online portal closes, so watch both the Stipendium Hungaricum site and the Secretariat for the official dates.

Türkiye Scholarships

Türkiye Scholarships offers a monthly stipend, accommodation, health insurance, a flight ticket and a language course, at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level. The 2026 application window ran from 10 January to 20 February 2026, the same as in 2025, so expect something similar in early 2027. The 2027 dates have not been announced. Applications are made online and are free.

GREAT Scholarships (UK)

The British Council's GREAT Scholarships for 2027 include nine scholarships for Ghana, worth £10,000 each, funded half by the British Council and half by the university, for students starting at a UK university in autumn 2027. Each university sets its own application deadline, and the individual offers are still being published, so check the Study UK page of each university you are applying to.

How to use the time you have

The deadlines are close, but the real bottleneck is rarely the form. It is the documents that take weeks: transcripts, references, a statement that does not read like a template, and a proposal for the programmes that ask for one. If you have not started, pick the one or two scholarships you are most competitive for instead of applying to everything. Our SOP Builder can help you get a first draft down, and the Opportunity Bank lists more with their deadlines.

Not sure which one fits you?

The right scholarship depends on your grades, your field and how much time you have. We will help you choose where to spend your effort and get the file ready.

The Gates Cambridge and ETH Zurich details were checked against the programmes' own pages on 12 October 2026. The Stipendium Hungaricum, Türkiye Scholarships and GREAT Scholarships details come from each programme's published notices for the current and previous rounds, checked on 28 October 2026, and their next dates have not been announced. Deadlines can change, so confirm each on the official page before applying. This is general information, not advice on your own application.
